Incredible boating and sailing destinations are a must for you to get the most out of your boating experience. In the United States, there are literally thousands of boating destinations providing a perfect getaway for you and your loved ones. In the first of this two part series, we identify some top U.S. boating destinations you may not be as familiar with but which provide beautiful water favorable to boaters and cruisers.
Sarasota, FL:
Away from the commercial marine traffic and the urban bustle of Florida’s Tampa Bay is the easygoing amble of Sarasota, just a few nautical miles south along the state’s central west coast. Sarasota is home to a plethora of elegant private residences on the water and many marinas in which to purchase or rent boat slips for transient or long-term use.
Corpus Christi TX:
To pollywogs, a mention of Texas may not bring boating to mind, but old salts know that the state’s eastern Gulf coast—locally known as the Texas Coastal Bend—is a maritime treasure tinged with a taste of the Ol’ West.
Carlsbad, CA:
The lagoon itself is easy to access for runabout owners, and it registers a zero on the intimidation scale. This is one of the few destinations south of Los Angeles where boaters can play without checking tide charts and surf conditions. Also known as Agua Hedionda, it is much like a small lake in that the water is calm enough to encourage slalom skiers onto a six-buoy course.
Lake George, NY:
Cruising over the sparkling surface of beautiful Lake George, in New York’s Adirondack Park (slightly over 3 hours from the concrete and steel of metro New York), is located an amazing vast natural paradise and boating destination (its beauty is often compared to Lake Tahoe in Nevada, and Lake Como in Italy). It is only an easy drive from the most densely populated area in the country.
Morehead City, NC:
While many people think of North Carolina as a mountainous retreat, there are many boating destination jewels to discover east of the Great Smokies. The coast of North Carolina is a treasure trove of diving and big game fishing opportunities. Carteret County, known as the Crystal Coast, is one of the best boating destinations to take advantage of this bounty.
