Miami, Florida – A Top Sailing and Boating Destination

by dockmaster on July 23, 2010

Miami, Florida is the most visited city in this southern state and a boaters paradise. Miami has become one of the top recreational boating destinations in the world.  It is also home to one of the most renowned boating playgrounds.

Miami, Florida is one of the premier sailing destinations in the world.  Biscayne Bay offers a unique and protected sailing area in relatively calm waters.  On Biscayne Bay, you can view Stiltsville, a unique set of homes built on stilts in the middle of the Biscayne Bay during the 1930s.  Although most of the Stiltsville homes were destroyed by Hurricane Andrew that hit the city in 1992, the few that remain are a sight to behold.

The Miami International Boat Show is a spectacular five-day event held annually in February.   Hotels up and down the Florida east coast are packed with boating enthusiasts, as tens of thousands of U.S. and international visitors arrive for the “World’s Greatest Boat Show” at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

Just 15 miles south is the Island of Boca Chita, part of Biscayne National Park.  Both day and night sailing to Boca Chita via the beautiful Biscayne Bay waters is spectacular and a popular destination for day sailors.

Once the sun sets and the city lights glisten, sailing close to downtown Miami is breathtaking. Watch the scenery go by on a the deck of a sailboat and be amazed at the beauty and color of the skyline.  Just recently, Miami was voted as having the No.3 best skyline in the US.

The summer offers the best swimming opportunities. Winter season is best reserved for winds and sailing. But one thing is constant- the sightseeing is great all year long.

While in Miami, don’t spend all your time staying on South Beach.  Although it is spectacular in its own right, there is incredible sightseeing opportunities close by.  Nature lovers can go on an adventure right on Key Biscayne, just a 15 minute drive from South Beach.  But the best adventure has to be spending the day sailing and sightseeing on Biscayne Bay. Sailors from around the world flock to this destination because they appreciate its unique beauty and sheltered sailing ground.

Because of its pristine and protected waters, Miami has a plethora of marinas with boat slips rentals and boat slips for sale.   Search our boat slip database to find the perfect transient boat slip rental or a permanent home for your boat.
